How To Implement ChatGPT Into Your App Marketing Strategy

ChatGPT reached 100 million monthly active users in only two months, breaking TikTok’s record for fastest growing app. In those short months, ChatGPT is being used by marketers, business owners, and even developers to write copy, code, and more, simplifying their work. But how can you implement ChatGPT into your app marketing strategy? Is it even worth pursuing?

We’re going to explore a few ways that app owners are using ChatGPT in their marketing strategies, and whether or not it can benefit your business.

Drafting Marketing Copy Created Through ChatGPT

The first way you can implement ChatGPT into your app marketing strategy is most likely to draft marketing copy. Most of the ChatGPT examples going viral on social media are examples of this: someone asks for an entire blog post about their niche, an advertisement for their new product, and even social media posts themselves.

To show you what we mean, we used ChatGPT and entered “write me an advertisement for a mobile skincare e-commerce app called Skinsoft”. Here are the results:

Not bad! Of course, you would need a more detailed request to make this seem more unique: there’s no word limit on prompts for ChatGPT, so writing a prompt that says “write me an advertisement for a mobile skincare e-commerce app called Skinsoft with the catchphrase ‘Make your Skinsoft today’ at the end, and under 200 words” works just as well as the simple prompt.

While this copy looks good on the service and definitely does the job, the fatal flaw with ChatGPT is its neutrality. ChatGPT sources thousands upon thousands of web pages and other forms of content to craft its own text. The problem? That means using all of those sources with varying styles, is mashing all of those styles together to create… a neutral, unbranded, stylized piece.

Its best use, in this case, is as a tool for smaller businesses and app owners who do not have the time to churn out social media posts or other short pieces of copy or to use as more of an outline for larger pieces. Although the sample in the picture above is good but bland, using it as a first draft or outline for a stylized, brand-forward piece of copy would save you significant time in the drafting process.

Using ChatGPT For Brand Awareness Strategies

Another way you can implement ChatGPT into your marketing strategy is to use it as a tool for brand awareness efforts. Although this partially involves copy, this section will focus on other things ChatGPT can do to raise brand awareness.

You can use ChatGPT to generate ideas for the content you’ll write, with audience details to ensure your content is targeted to the right audience. Pay special attention to the first one; it is absolutely perfect for this specific font:

The first one is clearly targeting women in the age range of 30-45, however, the other two attempts are decent as well.

You can also train ChatGPT with customer data and use it to inform your marketing strategy, similarly to how you can train any other AI chatbot with customer data and ask it questions to formulate reports and strategies. This is incredibly useful if you’re already using ChatGPT for other parts of your marketing strategy, as you can keep all of these efforts in one place.

Something interesting users have noticed with ChatGPT recently is that you can ask ChatGPT why it structured a piece of copy, or why it suggested certain topics. Then ChatGPT will actually give you a detailed reason why it wrote what it did. This is especially useful when trying to gather information on what your target audience is drawn to, as you can see down below:

How Do I Use ChatGPT For My Marketing Efforts?

After seeing a few examples, I’m sure you’re ready to implement ChatGPT into your marketing strategy. But where can I begin?

“Can You Write Me ______?”

Use this command to ask ChatGPT to write you an ad, a blog, emails, and more. The more detailed you are in your request, the less editing you will have to do when the copy comes back. This is by far the most versatile command. Here are a few examples:

  • Can you write me an ad about an app called ______ that is 50 words long and targets a young female audience?
  • Can you write me an SEO-optimized blog post about 5 apps that help you form habits, including our app called ______ with a CTA for the _______ app at the end?

“Can you tell me why you _______?”

Ask ChatGPT to explain why they made certain decisions in copy, or why it answered your question in a certain way. This is incredibly beneficial for marketing your app, as you can gain intel on how to properly market to your ICP (ideal customer profile) more effectively.

“GPT train: ______”

This is how you train ChatGPT on a dataset. This is useful when wanting to make detailed reports or copy that will utilize positive data to your app’s advantage. Simply fill in the blank with the dataset you wish to utilize.

“Generate _____ keywords for a website about _____”

Need keywords for website copy to advertise your app? This is a simple way to generate the best keywords to get your app noticed.

Can ChatGPT Replace A Marketing Strategist?

Can you implement ChatGPT into your marketing strategy to replace a marketing strategist? Yes, and no. ChatGPT can technically replace a marketing strategist… but it cannot replace a good marketing strategist.

ChatGPT can craft copy of any kind, can answer a variety of questions, and take user-inserted data to draft reports, it is not able to capture a new emerging trend from last week you need to capitalize on before it’s irrelevant. It’s also limited to data from before 2021 at the moment, which only strengthens the previous statement.

ChatGPT in its current state is nothing more than a tool. It can’t replace copywriters; the copy is neutralized. It can’t replace a marketing strategist either; it’s a few years behind and not out in the field. This is subject to change as ChatGPT updates, but for now, it’s best utilized as a tool for these roles in marketing an app, rather than taking over their position.

Conclusion

When you implement ChatGPT into your app marketing strategy it works incredibly well when used as a tool rather than a replacement. You can cut down time writing, crafting reports, and even targeting your ICP when used properly.
